WKBW was the station I listened to as a teenager from Toronto in the mid 50’s. It was the only station that played classic Rythym and Blues dance songs by artists such as Big Joe Turner, Clyde McFatter,The Clovers,Spaniels,Five Satins, Fats Domino,Little Richard, (before Elvis) just to name a few.In 1956 four of us guys drove out to the Zanzibar in Bufalo in my 1950 Hudson to see the Hound in action behind a glass encased area in the lounge. As white Canadians we had no problem mixing with the predominently black audience, who like us, really enjoyed the music.
At that time the only place to buy their 78rpm records was at RABS music store in Bufalo. Still have some today. We promoted R&B in Canada ever since. Thanks to The Hound. HANK
